DOLE 6 to hold Jobs Fair for Maritime Sector
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 will hold a Job Fair for the graduates of Maritime-related courses on April 29 at the covered gym of Western Visayas College of Science & Technology (WVCST) starting from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
This is part of the "Handog Jobs Fair Caravan for the Maritime Sector," a joint undertaking of the DOLE, the Philippine Association of Maritime Institute (PAMI), Manning Association of the Philippines (MAP), Phil-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc (PJMCC), and the Department of Education (DepEd).
This Caravan is anchored on the "Handog sa Kabataan sa Kanilang Pagtatapos" concept which adopt a new strategy in providing employment assistance to the 2008 graduates in the secondary and collegiate level.
This new strategy consolidates in one program package the career advocacy/guidance and pre-employment counseling services and the job fair.
The affair will center on career and employment counseling for high school graduates of 2008, incoming 4th year high school and selected students from the DepEd's supervised science secondary schools; conduct of Jobs Fair for Maritime occupations; and, direct counseling for graduates of Maritime Schools who are employed in non-maritime occupations.
DOLE 6 has invited guidance counselors to a consultation meeting primarily to address the jobs and skills mismatch currently prevailing in the country's labor market.
This activity is one of the salient measures that the government is putting in place with the support of stakeholders to reinforce the country's bid to become the main source of quality marine and deck officers for the world shipping fleet in 2008 and beyond.
More than twenty public and private high schools and colleges/universities are expected to participate in this Job Fair.
