Gen. Peralta's statue to be given prominence in new park
The statue of Panay World War II hero Gen. Macario Peralta will be given due prominence in the renovation plans for the Sunburst Park behind the Iloilo City Freedom Grandstand.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said Gen. Peralta's statue will be situated in the middle of the park. The statue is currently near the old comfort room. The old comfort room will be demolished to accommodate Peralta's statue.
Treñas said Peralta should be given due honor by putting him in the right place at the Sunburst Park. His statue should not be placed near the comfort room. It will appear, Gen. Peralta serves as keeper of the comfort room, he said.
With the demolition of the old comfort room, the new comfort room for males and females are soon to be completed. Initial plan was to have the renovation completed for this year's Dinagyang festival but it did not materialize.
The open space behind the grandstand was also developed and planted with trees and flowers. There are also eateries and chess center in the area.
Treñas said the area needs to be developed. A comprehensive development plan is not in place to develop and beautify the area. A perimeter fence will also be constructed for city residents to stay safe while spending time inside the park.
The park will serve as alternative area for Plaza Libertad where people could enjoy time with their families without spending much.
