Treñas wants Tindahan Natin outlets in city's populous barangays
The city's populous barangays will be given priority in the placement of 15 Tindahan Natin outlets which the National Food Authority (NFA) is slated to open in preparation for the lean month season.
On Friday, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas together with the NFA City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) met to discuss their preparation such that cheaper rice will be made available not only to indigents but to all city residents.
"My major concern is to ensure that NFA rice will be made available in our barangays. And I have made instructions that our populous barangays will be prioritized in the placement of these new outlets," he said.
The 15 new outlets will be in addition to the 52 existing outlets that are already in place since last year.
"Depending on their performance, the NFA might add another 15 outlets. The city will closely coordinate with NFA and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which is handling the project and the CSWDO," he said.
In addition to the Tindahan Natin outlets the NFA has also Bigasan ng Bayan outlets that will be selling NFA rice at P18.25 per kilo.
The group will again meet on May 14 to assess the rice situation in the city. (PNA)
