Protests up today in commemoration of Labor Day

Labor and other militant groups on Panay Island will hold protest actions today to press for higher wages and for control of prices of rice and other basic commodities.

In Iloilo, thousands of protesters led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and Kilusang Mayo Uno will assemble in two points in Molo and Jaro Districts before marching to the grounds of the provincial capitol where a rally will be held.

Police expects peaceful Labor Day celebration

Iloilo City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga expects a peaceful Labor Day celebration today though more or less 1,000 members of militant organizations will convene at the new capitol grounds for a rally. Police is in full alert status to maintain peace and order.

Barayuga said uniformed and non-uniformed police personnel will be deployed around the city to keep an eye among the rallying groups.

Court issues hold departure order vs Tsinoy bizman accused of rape

The Regional Trial Court (RTC) has issued a hold departure order against a Filipino-Chinese businessman accused of Rape by a minor.

RTC Branch 27 presiding judge Ma. Elena G. Opinion in an order dated March 11, 2008, but was made available to the media only yesterday, issued a hold departure order against businessman Wilson C. Lim who is facing a Rape and Rape by sexual assault charges in Criminal Cases No. 07-64764 and 07-647765.
