City eyes buying of delivery vans for new slaughterhouse
The city government is planning to acquire delivery vans to be used at the soon to be opened Double A slaughterhouse in Brgy. Tacas, Jaro.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the delivery vans will help in the prompt delivery of slaughtered hogs from the abattoir to the different markets.
Treñas said the funds for the purchase of the delivery vans would be included in the next Supplemental Budget. He, however, could not say yet on how many delivery vans would be acquired. At present, the city government do not have delivery vans for the delivery of slaughtered hogs to the markets.
The purchase of delivery vans is one of the city's preparations for the opening of the multi-million slaughterhouse.
The opening of the new slaughterhouse has been stalled several times due to various circumstances. Recently, problems on having a low voltage electricity delayed the soft opening. As to date, there is no definite schedule for its opening.
It was also learned that the new abattoir could only cater to slaughtering of pigs. It has yet to establish its cattle line for the slaughtering of cows and carabaos. The city is still waiting for its loan from the Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF).
The chief executive said they have to wait when the loan is to be released for the installation of a cattle line for the new slaughterhouse. The cattle line and the refrigeration facility are on top of the list to upgrade the city's abattoir.
With the lack of cattle line in the new slaughterhouse, cows and carabaos will still be slaughtered at the old slaughterhouse in Molo district.
It was learned that some butchers prefer to bring their hogs and cattle in the old slaughterhouse because of its proximity to the different markets. The old slaughterhouse, however, is no longer in good condition.
