Board member hopes for major arrest before slain vice-mayor cousin's burial
With three days left before the scheduled burial of slain Ajuy Vice Mayor Ramon Rojas Jr., Fifth District Board Member Jett Rojas hopes for the "ultimate justice."
This, he said in a The News Today (TNT) interview, would be tantamount to real justice as sought and deserved for by the family.
As such, he remains personally in touch and connected with law enforcement agencies tasked to investigate and resolved the senseless killing.
The mastermind, the family was reportedly apprised, remains within Iloilo as yet serious arrests of the suspects are further hoped for.
Bring the culprits –whoever they are- to the arms of the law.
Such was his call in an emotional privilege speech days after the murder. Board Member Rojas condemned Thursday's killing while calling for extensive action from various law enforcement agencies.
From the Iloilo Provincial Police Office to the Police Regional Office 6, Board Member Rojas had a similar appeal – exhaust all measures not only to investigate but more importantly, to solve the murder.
"It is only when justice is done that Vice Mayor Rojas could rest in peace," he then said.
"It was indeed a very shocking incident and nobody expected that such a cruel end would come to the Vice Mayor who was known to all and everyone to be a man of peace. But it was perhaps, the result of his many involvements in the development of Ajuy that cost him his life," his speech went. "...Vice Mayor Rojas became an advocate of many progressive ideas that angered some influential people in Ajuy. It was his advocacies that perhaps earned him the ire of certain vested and political interest."
"He wanted to see people living in peace and prosperity and among his interests was making Ajuy a tourist haven, a model for environmental protection and of course, a community where peace and order would be a common experience for all the people in his municipality," he continued.
Board Member Rojas assured then that the unfinished job by his slain cousin will be continued "by us whom he has left behind."
