Treñas orders deployment of more cops on school opening
City Mayor Jerry Treñas has ordered the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to deploy additional police personnel in different schools, universities and other areas of convergence as the school opening nears. This is to ensure the safety of all the students while in school.
Treñas believes the presence of the police will deter the commission of crimes especially in schools.
In Iloilo City, at least 100 personnel will be deployed in the opening of classes next week. The city's police deployment is part of the 5,000 police personnel ordered by Police Regional Office 6 Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas to be deployed. The deployment of police personnel is contained in the Oplan Balik Eskuela of the Philippine National Police.
Apart from the deployment of cops in the different convergence areas, the chief executive also ordered the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit (TMEU) to ensure proper traffic management in the city.
Meanwhile, Treñas said the different public schools in the city are all ready for the opening of classes as he reminded all principals of a memorandum order from the Department of Education on the "no collection policy." The "no collection policy" is both implemented in public elementary and high schools to allow more students to enroll.
Public schools are prohibited from collecting any fees or payments for clearances and lost books in the first month of the school year. Even voluntary fees including Parents-Teachers-Community Association (PTCA), Red Cross, Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP), Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) and Anti-TB Fund should not be collected during the first month.
Students who are promoted to the next grade or year level are considered automatically enrolled for the coming school year in the same school. Pupils entering first grade, entering first year high school and transferee's from another public or private school needs to enroll during the enrollment period.
