BACOLOD CITY -- Negros Oriental was the recipient of six rubber rescue boats for the three cities of the province.
The boats were turned over by Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Cerge Remonde and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Deputy Administrator Undersecretary Anthony Golez.
The turnover ceremony was held at the Amity Public Safety Academy at Pana-ad Park in Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Recipient cities of Bacolod, Silay and Talisay received two motorized rubber boats each.
The boats will be used during floods and sea disasters response activities.
Silay City Mayor Jose "Oti" Montelibano said that these boats will be used to rescue lives.
"Disasters are big challenge for us all. But, we should act as one whenever there is a disaster. Let's unite and be connected as one. In unity, there is strength," he said.
Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan said they appreciate the gesture of the OCD and the Office of the President for giving them the motorized rubber boats.
Golez, on the other hand, said that Negros Occidental, particularly Bacolod is a microcosm of a place perfect for disaster in waiting.
"This province is a perfect place for an impending disaster. However, with research and continued learning on disaster preparedness, you will cultivate your place as a breeding ground for knowledge on disaster preparedness. Teach more people on disaster preparedness," he said. (PNA)
