Aklan Gov pledges P1M to DOLE's Employment Program
Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez pledged P1-million as his province's counterpart to the livelihood restoration program, the 2nd phase of Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Early Employment Recovery Program for workers displaced by typhoon "Frank" in worst hit municipalities in that province.
The DOLE 6 allocated P1-million for the lone district of Aklan for the restoration of workers livelihood that had been lost or damaged due to the devastating typhoon.
He made this announcement after the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the DOLE 6 and the 11 local government units (LGUs) in that province for the implementation of emergency employment assistance, the 1st phase of the Program.
Marquez lauded the DOLE for being the first national government agency to provide emergency employment to his people affected by flood and mudflow brought by the devastating typhoon.
"I commend the DOLE for being the first among the national government agencies to provide emergency employment to our people. This could help alleviate their pains and sufferings," he said.
Labor 6 Director Aida Estabillo, together with Governor Marquez, released the checks to the mayors representing payment of labor cost of workers employed in clearing and de-clogging operation and reconstruction efforts of the LGUs. The total amount of checks released was Php1.207-million and expected to benefit some 700 distressed workers from these municipalities.
Earlier, the DOLE 6 released a total of P2.633-million to 27 LGUs and 1 national agency (POPCOM) in the provinces of Iloilo, Antique and Capiz, benefiting some 1,560 distressed workers.
