PSMBFI releases additional financial aid to PNP
The Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc. (PSMBFI) released Monday additional financial assistance to police personnel affected by typhoon Frank.
The PSMBFI is a non-stock, non-profit mutual benefit association, organized in 1997 to provide insurance protection to its members. PSMBFI came about following the enactment of Republic Act 8291 (GSIS Act of 1997) which excluded the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology from the social insurance coverage of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) without providing for an alternative option.
PSMBFI President, retired Police Director Efren Q. Fernandez, handed over the P50,000 assistance for police personnel of Guimaras Provincial Police Office, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the Regional Headquarters.
Last June 30, the PSMBFI, represented by its Marketing Manager, retired Police Senior Superintendent Frederick V. Oconer, also turned over the initial financial assistance of P50,000 each to the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and the cities of Iloilo and Roxas. On the same day, the PSMBFI also released through Fernandez an additional P250,000 to Aklan PPO, over and above the P50,000 which Oconer turned over at Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
Fernandez, who hails from Aklan, also thanked Police Regional Office 6 Director, Police Chief Superintendent Isagani R. Cuevas, for the support given to his "kababayans" who were badly affected by the typhoon. (VH Bandoquillo)
