DOH to verify Antique town food poisoning
The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) 6 is verifying the reported food poisoning of high school students in San Remigio, Antique.
DOH-CHD 6 Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Glen Alonsabe said that the verification being done by field personnel to the report is intended to take proper action.
However, Alonsabe said there is a big possibility that the cassava pudding bought by the 24 students of St. Vincent High School in San Remigio from a food vendor has caused the food poisoning.
Cassava has cyanogen substance that could cause cyanide poisoning.
"This is why, it is really important for the food vendors to observe the proper way of preparation," he said.
The high school students, who suffered vomiting, headache and abdominal pain, were brought to the Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning.
The provincial hospital doctors declared the students out of danger.
Leah Loquinario, the vendor who sold the cassava cake, said she has been selling cassava cake to students for a long time. (PNA)
