NFA allocates 1,500 sacks of rice for 10 Bacolod barangays
BACOLOD CITY -- Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen of the City Mayor's Office announced yesterday that the National Food Authority (NFA) has granted their request for additional rice allocation to ten more barangays.
Due to high demand for low-priced NFA rice, the grain retailers were of short supply to satisfy the needs of the market.
Soliguen, cluster head in charge of Barangay Affairs, said that NFA Regional Director Miguel Wycoco together with NFA Manager Marianito Bejemino had visited various barangays the other day to verify reports if there is indeed a shortage of NFA rice distribution as claimed by the residents.
Soliguen validated the statement of Mr. Wycoco that 100 sacks of rice in every barangay is not enough. Because of the observation, NFA will allocate 150 sacks of rice to be distributed in every barangay.
Mr. Soliguen informed the media that the first five barangays have started availing the additional NFA rice allocation as of yesterday and the next five barangays are scheduled to have their share starting today.
The five barangays initially covered are Barangay Villamonte, Taculing, Banago, Singcang-Airport and Barangay Bata. Each of this barangay will be allocated 150 sacks or a total of 750 sacks. Soliguen added that every residents could avail of the NFA rice sold for only P18.50 per kilo. "The role of the city is only to assist grain retailers and will not directly be involved in selling," Soliguen added.
The next phase of increased rice distribution will be in Barangay Alangilan, Granada, Mandalagan, Tangub and Barangay 35.
Last week the city contingent headed by Soliguen assisted in the distribution of NFA rice to various barangays wherein every barangay availed 50 sacks of rice.
Soliguen said that the City only responded to the needs of the people who are affected by the high prices of rice and other prime commodities.
