2 rebels killed, 1 wounded in Tapaz encounter
Two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were reportedly killed while one was injured in an encounter with government forces last Wednesday at Sitio Caratagan, Katipunan, Tapaz, Capiz.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo, Col. Nicholas Pacion, of the Philippine Army's 47th Infantry Batallion, said their group was having regular patrol operations around 5 p.m. when they came across some 26 NPA rebels led by Francisco Balawis a.k.a Ka Tonying.
Firefight then ensued between the two groups which lasted for several minutes. Col. Pacion said the rebels later retreated to an unknown direction bringing along with them their dead and wounded comrades.
On the other hand, nobody from the government troops were reported killed or wounded.
Meanwhile, the military is still conducting hot pursuit operations in the area.
