Bago City honors Rafael Salas
BACOLOD CITY -- The city government of Bago celebrated the 80th birth anniversary of Rafael Salas, executive assistant to former President Ferdinand Marcos and executive director of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities recently.
The event started with the unveiling of the historical marker to commemorate the exemplary leadership of Salas, led by the National Historical Institute chairman Ambeth Ocampo and Ambassador Carmelita Salas, widow of Rafael, with Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres, NHI executive director Ludovico Badoy, Presidential Assistance for Western Visayas Dr. Raul Banias, and Salas Foundation president Arsenio Yulo.
The second part of the program was the groundbreaking of one-storey building at the ABAP Gym compound, which will serve as the Salas Youth ACCESS Center and library. The construction was funded by the local government, and the Rafael M. Salas Foundation.
Ambassador Salas thanked all the people who continue to love and admire her husband for his contribution to the country and world in general.
Rafael Salas was born in Bago City, Negros Occidental, on August 7, 1928. (PIA/cad)
