Capiz vice gov justifies absences from SP sessions
ROXAS CITY—Finally, Vice Governor Felipe B. Barredo broke his silence over the issue that he is absent most of the time during the Sangguniang Panlalawigan sessions.
Barredo said most of the absences he incurred are justified as he is marked on official leave, sick leave or on official travel related to his job as vice governor.
"The function of the vice governor is not purely legislative but also sometimes executive," Barredo said adding that he is the one who signs many documents at his office specially salaries of employees.
Barredo said other tasks of the vice governor are: attending conferences and meetings, seminars not only in Capiz but also in other places like vice governor's league, etc.
He also gets invitations from mayors and other sectors which he also gives priority.
The vice governor said that his family and business need his attention too.
Records show that from January 1 to August 21, 2008, Barredo incurred 2 absences, 1 vacation leave, 9 sick leaves, 3 official leaves and 4 absences when he acted as an OIC governor.
