Capiz top cop seeks community help in drive vs criminalities
ROXAS CITY – Senior Supt. Josephus Angan, newly installed director of the Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO), appealed to the community to help in the campaign against criminalities by being vigilant.
Angan's appeal came in the wake of the recent bombing of the Globe Telecom relay tower in Jamindan town allegedly by New People's Army (NPA) rebels.
Around ten armed men believed to be NPA rebels bombed the relay tower at around 9 p.m. on August 29 in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Jamindan, Capiz, seven kilometers from the town proper and near the biggest military camp of the Philippine Army in the Visayas area.
Sto. Rasario Bgry Captain Ronaldo Silverio, caretaker of the relay station, said that prior to the bombing he was informed by the armed men to vacate the area. No one was reported hurt in the incident.
Silverio said the generator set and other parts of the relay tower were damaged due to the explosion.
Silverio disclosed that there was a demand letter coming from the CPP-NPA asking for P80,000 as revolutionary taxes but the Globe Telecom merely ignored it.
Capt. Lowen Gil Marquez of the Phil. Army said that the bombing was perpetrated by the CPP-NPA Central Front Committee led by Juvy Benedicto alias Bongbong.
As of press time, there is still no statement from the CPP-NPA whether or not they are responsible for the destruction of the cell tower.
