Barangays avail of livelihood programs
MODELING THEIR OWN PRODUCTS.
Melia Omarrementeria and Gloria
Arcenal are modeling the jewelries that
they make at the Quasi Parish of St.
Therese of the Child Jesus. The two
trainors from the City Cooperative and
Livelihood Office give free lessons to
residents of Brgys. 34, 35, 36 and 16
cottage industry projects such as
jewelry-making, detergent liquid and
power form, perfume-making and others.
The above jewelries will form part of the
display that will be brought to the
Rockwell Trade Center in Manila,
alongside products from the
Association of Negros Producers.
With the closing of the old slaughterhouse in Barangay 35 drawing near, the City of Bacolod, in cooperation with the Quasi Parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus at Cameroli Avenue has started an alternative livelihood program for the residents of Barangays 34, 35, 36 and 16.
Many families in the said barangays depend on the old slaughterhouse for a living.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia has tasked the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (CCLDO) to facilitate the instructions needed for the livelihood programs, while Parish Priest Fr. Virgilio Mahinay of the Quasi Parish helps in the purchase of materials for the training programs.
Two CCLDO personnel Melia Omarrementeria and Gloria Arcenal are assigned to the training programs for the said barangays. The parish church itself serves as the training center for the residents.
The lessons started last Sept. 12, 2008 and will continue until the 22nd. Residents were taught how to make liquid detergent, powder detergent, fabric conditioner, perfume and jewelry making.
On the 17th, there were lessons on meat processing like tocino, chorizo and embotido making, on the 18th were perfume making lessons, massage therapy on the 19th and 20th and chocolate making on the 22nd. All of these will be sponsored and held at the Quasi Parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus with Omarrementeria, Arcenal and Father Mahinay.
FABRIC CONDITIONER. Gloria Arcenal of
the CCLDO proudly displays the finished
product - fabric conditioner - as her
students from the barangays look on.
To the right of Arcenal is Fr. Virgilio
Mahinay of the Quasi Pasi of St. Therese
of the Child Jesus who provided
materials for the program. Second from
left is Melia Omarrementeria (her back

The lessons are given free to residents of the above-stated barangays.
