Library hubs help boosts children's reading comprehension skills
There are about 70 Library Hubs established in the different schools divisions in the country.
According the Department of Education (DepEd) press report, the Library Hub is also known as the "warehouse and wholesale" library which exclusively serves public elementary and secondary schools.
The Hub provides supplementary reading materials in plastic bins that are sorted by subject area or theme. The supplementary reading materials include story books and children's books which teachers used to buy as teaching aids. These books are different from reference or text books, the DepEd press report explained.
The Hub aims to develop love and habit of reading among grade school children. It also aims to improve children's reading comprehension skills.
Presently, there are 35 sites being renovated for the Library Hubs. The site and the renovation of the are contributed by the local government units while the DepEd provides the books, furniture and training for teachers who will man the hub, the DepeEd press report concluded. (PIA/T.Villavert)
