Jonathan Zaens performs at Nature's Village, Talisay on Sept. 28
Multi-awarded Filipino bass baritone Jonathan Zaens will perform on September 28 at Nature's Village Resort in Talisay City.
The event is part of the Berlin-based vocalist's Kundiman Concert tour, following his album of kundiman songs produced in Germany in November 2007 with accompaniment by pianist Abelardo Galang II.
The Negros leg is a partnership between the Negros Cultural Foundation, Nature's Village Resort, and The RUINS with the support of the office of Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan. Tickets to the 7:00 p.m. concert are pegged at P1,000 and P300, and are available at The Negros Museum (telephone numbers 433-4764, 431-9451).
A native of Naga City, Jonathan Zaens sang his way to first place in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists at the age of 11. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Voice, cum laude, at the University of the Philippines under Prof. Andrea O. Veneracion, he went on to study Voice/Music Theatre under Prof. Dr. Herbert Bauer at the University of the Arts in Berlin in 2000.
He was a prize-winner at the 7th Sylvia Geszty International Voice Competition, and a finalist at the 13th Bach International Competition as well as the Mendelssohn Voice Competition. His portfolio includes performances as guest in the State Opera and Estates Theater in Prague, and at the Neukollner Opera, Berliner Chamber Opera and the New Opera Stage in Berlin. In 2003, he sang at the world premiere of Stockhausen's Dufte-Zeichen at the Salzburg Festival.
