Leonardia, Zayco: Report presence of banned Chinese dairies
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia appealed to the public to call Bacolod City Hall and City Health Office if they found banned "Made in China" dairy products displayed in grocery stores around the city.
The appeal was done after he has directed the City Health Office through Dra.Salome Biñas to monitor and prevent the sale of the said products for public safety.
The mayor also cautioned the public against eating candies made in China using milk products and he advised to refrain from buying it.
Initial reports from the special team created which composed of sanitation inspectors revealed that no grocery stores sold banned items as they conducted series of surprise inspections starting last week.
Leonardia said the cooperation of store owners and the public this time is very important so that we cannot experience what was happened in China few weeks ago when four infants were killed because of melamine contamination on milk.
Meanwhile, Governor Isidro Zayco also directed the mayors of Negros Occidental to create monitoring teams ensuring that banned dairy products are not sold in towns and cities in the province.
Zayco also appeal to report any untoward observations over the display of such goods on groceries and markets for proper disposition.
The Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD) in Negros Occidental revealed that they have no records entry of banned products in the province but they advised the Negrense to be aware of the news.
The two Chinese dairy companies, Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group and Mengniu Dairy Co. are products with suspected melamine contamination.
Bacolod City Health Officer Biñas said that melamine, because of higher heat tolerance is found to be not fit for human consumption that usually resulted to the formation of kidney stones.
