P1M CR at Iloilo Central Market ready for public use
A P1 million worth of comfort room at the Iloilo Central Market was inaugurated yesterday. Its now open for public use free of charge. The construction was funded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Mayor Jerry Trenas said the construction of the comfort room is a pilot project. Its implementation was delayed because of the banning period. Though, operational, the city government is still working for the construction of five manholes.
The five manholes are being constructed along Guanco Street, City Proper. It will accommodate the waters coming from the drainage systems. The opening of the comfort room was stalled after the chief executive ordered for the overhauling of the septic tank and drainage system.
Treñas said the city government will maintain the facility for public use. Twp personnel from the city government will act as "guard" at the comfort room to maintain its cleanliness, one for the female comfort room and other one for the male comfort room. The market in-charge will be the one to come up with a plan to maintain cleanliness of the comfort room.
The public especially those who frequents the Iloilo Central Market have been complaining over the lack of comfort room to accommodate them whenever their need arises.
Meanwhile, the city government is also working for the completion of another comfort room at the back of the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. They want the project completed before next year's Dinagyang celebration.
The comfort room inside the Dinagyang lounge is not enough to accommodate the visitors during Dinagyang. The old comfort room was demolished to be replaced by a new one. A statue of former Gen. Macario Peralta was built near the old comfort room.
Peralta's statue was erected in the open space at the back of the Freedom Grandstand. His new location will give prominence to one of Panay's heroes.
