Essential child survival package highlighted in GP Round II
In step with President Arroyo's commitment to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), the eight essential child survival package will again be highlighted with the conduct of the Garantisadong Pambata Round II this October 2008.
Dr. Salvacion dela Cruz, Cluster Head, Family Health and Nutrition of the Department of Health, Region 6 disclosed in a PIA interview that the focus of the campaign is to provide the essential health services as specified in the child survival strategy in order to accelerate and sustain action towards reaching Millennium Development Goal 4- Reduce Child Mortality.
The Garantisadong Pambata eight (GP 8) Child Survival package includes: 1) skilled attendance during pregnancy, delivery and immediate post-partum; 2) care of newborn, 3) breastfeeding and complementary feeding; 4) micronutrient supplementation and deworming; 5) immunization of children and mothers; 6) integrated management of sick children; 7) injury prevention and control; and 8) birth spacing.
On October 13, Dr. dela Cruz said under 5 years old children will be given Vitamin A and de-worming drugs.
The activity is also an opportunity for children who have missed their routine immunization schedule for BCG, DPT, OPV, Hepatitis B and Measles, Dr. dela Cruz said as she urged parents to avail the services at the nearest health centers. (PIA)
