Hand washing corners set up
ROXAS CITY -- Hand washing corners were established in various rural health units (RHU) in Capiz to sustain the province's support to global campaign to improve sanitation and hygiene.
The RHU hand washing corner set up for the 1st ever Global Handwashing Day (GHD) last October 15 has facilities like pail, hand basin, towel and soap facilitated by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
"We will monitor these facilities and corners by November," said Provincial Health Office Sanitary Inspector Jane delos Reyes.
The Roxas City Health Office and the PHO also established the corner.
The GHD aimed to strengthen awareness and disseminate information on the significance of handwashing with soap and water as the simplest and most cost-effective way of improving sanitation and hygiene.
The worldwide activity is in support to the 2008 International Year of Sanitation as declared by the United Nations General Assembly to recognize the importance of sanitation to all of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). (PIA)
