Only Aklan residents exempted from Boracay tax
BORACAY ISLAND -- The Caticlan Jetty Port Administration has clarified that only the Aklan residents are being exempted from several tax fees imposed on tourists in this resort island.
Niven Maquirang, Caticlan Jetty Port administrator, said that several Aklanons are being used by some tourists in order for them to be exempted from paying local taxes such as environment fee and terminal fee.
Because of the one-entry-one-exit policy being imposed by the Philippine National Police, both tourists and residents are required to pass through the Caticlan Jetty Port as venue for boarding for a 15-minute banca ride to this resort island. Coming from Boracay towards Caticlan, tourists are asked to only pay for terminal fee.
Both terminal fee and environment fee is worth P50 each. Terminal fee is being charged by the provincial government while the environment fee goes to the coffers of the local government of Malay.
"We used the terminal fee for the management and maintenance of the jetty port buildings and other operations needed by the Aklan provincial government," said Maquirang. (PNA)
