Brgys tapped in 'Bantay Abuso' drive
The city government is set to launch its 'Bantay Abuso' project this coming Nov. 20 with the end result of organizing a gender and development (GAD) team and a women and children's desk in each of the city's 180 barangays here.
This was confirmed by city population officer Edna Querubin, one of the persons behind the realization of the project.
Querubin said the project will start with the conduct of trainings to barangay officials, especially barangay captains on gender sensitivity to make them 'gender responsive' and for them to realize the significance of making the issue on abuse of women and children as one of their priority concerns.
The women and children's desk in every barangay, according to Querubin, will operate 24-hours to extend assistance, mostly on referrals, to abused women and children.
Although no data was available at the moment, she added that cases of violence against women and children are on the rise in Iloilo City. (PNA)
