City mulls renting Angeles Arcade for 11 offices
The City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) has recommended to Mayor Jerry Treñas the renting of Angeles Arcade in Mabini Street, Iloilo City across the Iloilo Terminal Market to house the 11 offices of the city government presently occupying the century old Elizalde and Co. building owned by the Commission on Audit (CoA).
In the proposal tendered by Jose Roni Peñalosa to the mayor, there will be no cash out on the part of the city government. Instead, the city's payment will be deducted as "tax credit" from the property owner. The proposal is still being discussed as it needs to be officially bid out.
The building is adjacent to Robinsons mall and the Iloilo Terminal Market which also houses other city government offices.
The city needs to immediately act on the transfer after the CoA has given them until December 2008 to vacate the Elizalde building. The agreement for the free use of the building lapsed last July 5, 2008 and the city government was given until next month to move out. The CoA wants to rehabilitate the edifice located along J.M. Basa Street, City Proper.
The offices now housed at the Elizalde and Co. building are: the Local Civil Registrar, City Planning and Development Office, City Health Office, General Services Office, Population, City Local Government Office, Human Resource Management, City Tourism, Barangay Secretariat, PESO and city COA.
