Agriculture official hails farmers as heroes, too
While the Filipinos overseas are the modern heroes because they make the wheels of the country's economy going, the farmers back home keep the economy strong.
"If the farmers do not produce, for sure the country will go hungry, hence, you are our heroes, too," Iloilo Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo told the more than 200 farmers gathered at the Leon Multipurpose Gym.
Toledo was resource person on Climate Change Adaptation for Agriculture, during the opening of the Farmers' Month celebration in the municipality, November 12.
Toledo said that Leon farmers has so many things to offer, besides the diversity of its products that include mangoes and vegetables that are at par with the produce of other provinces.
"The national finalist for Outstanding Young Farmers of the Philippine comes from your town," he said.
Toledo said that the province-wide celebration of Farmers Month this November shows the priorities and importance farmers and farmers' organizations give to agricultural development and the improvement of their quality of life.
He said the interest of farmers to learn more makes them able to cope and adapt with climate change.
