FITS Nabas, Ibajay receive donated ICT equipment
The Philippine Council for Agriculture and Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) through the Western Visayas Agriculture Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) turned over a set of desktop computer and a cellular phone to FITS Nabas and Ibajay on October 14, 2008.
The said ICT equipment was turned over by the Regional Management Information System (RMIS) staff, Mr. Carl Hiponia together with Mr. Alan Rey Hiponia of Passi City and the Techno Gabay Coordinator of WESVARRDEC, Dr. Anna Mae C. Relingo.
Hon. Romeo Dalisay, Municipal Mayor of Nabas and Mr. Basilio Mationg, Municipal Agriculture Officer (MAO) received the equipment in the presence of Dr. Lelisa J. Teodosio, representative from the FITS Partner Member Agency (PMA), the Aklan State University.
On the other hand, FITS Ibajay received the equipment through Hon. Salvador Maagma, SB member and Chairman of Committee on Agriculture and the MAO, Mrs. Caridad Reyes. The Agriculture staff of both municipalities were present during the turn over ceremony held in the FITS Centers.
It was also learned from the WESVARRDEC officials that a digital camera will be turned over later. The camera will be used by the FITS Centers to document the activities being undertaken by the centers.
The Techno Gabay Coordinator explained to the FITS Centers staff and other stakeholders that the purpose of the ICT equipment is for data content build up and for the farmers to have access on information and technology needed in their farming activities, since it will be provided with interconnectivity. Moreover, other clients who would want to avail of any information regarding the topics they would like to know of are also welcome to use the equipment. The equipment will also be used in the production and/or reproduction of IEC materials for use by the farmers and other stakeholders. (MMT, RACO Rep)
