KALAHI-CIDSS bares accomplishments
The Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Community Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) bared its accomplishments of project implementation in the region.
KALAHI-CIDSS Project is primarily implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and under the umbrella of the anti-poverty mandate of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Regional Development (OPARD).
KALAHI covers the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz, and Negros Occidental, with 708 sub-projects implemented in 20 municipalities and in 642 barangays.
As of November 10, 2008, the sub-project on roads gets the highest share of 30 percent, followed by health stations, 21 percent, water system, 11 percent, school, 11 percent, day care, 10 percent, pre and post harvest, 9 percent, bridges, 4 percent, drainage, 3 percent and the rest, like irrigation, electrification and common services follow.
As to physical accomplishments, the municipalities of Cinception, Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Carles, Jamindan, San Dionisio, and San Rafael posted 100 percent accomplishments of sub-projects completed, while the municipalities of Maasin, Janiuay, Calinog, Lambunao, and Lemery had almost 100 percent accomplishments.
The rest of the municipalities, especially far-flung areas in Negros Occidental have achieved more than 50 percent status, giving an over all regional accomplishment for the KALAHI-CIDSS, of 81.22 percent.
The report stated that some delays in the implementation or completion of the sub-projects are due to undelivered commitments of the local chief executives, which are embodied in the memorandum of agreements, bad weather condition and either inadequate or lack of technical staff.
Presidential Asst. Raul Banias said the implementation of projects, especially in conflict areas as well as very poor areas have to be fast tracked and monitored so that the people can feel and see the projects bringing them benefits. (PIA 6)
