All set for Darag native chicken summit
For several years now, the West Visayas State University (WVSU) has been developing the Darag Native Chicken in Western Visayas in cooperation with the Philippine Council for Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), entrepreneurs in the province, WESVARRDEC and other institutions in the region.
Come December 2008, all roads will lead to the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB) to discuss on Business Opportunities on Darag Native Chicken on December 8, 2008.
Jointly sponsored by the UP Visayas-based Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) and PCARRD, the forum on darag native chicken is directed to interested entrepreneurs, provincial and municipal agriculture officers who would want to promote in their provinces and municipalities the breeding and marketing of the native chicken indigenous to the Panay region.
Featuring researchers and experts on the breeding and production of the native breed, the two-day forum is set to draw interest from a big number of native chicken raisers and growers across the region.
According to WESVARRDEC Consortium Director Joseph Edward Idemne, forum's lead convenor, after the years of extensive research done on darag native chicken, this consortium's initiative is proof that "the Darag team is now ready to promote the available enterprise options leading to commercialization."
Registration for two days is P475 only, which covers kits, materials, and a field trip on December 9. Reservations are only until December 3, 2008. For more details, interested parties can contact the WESVARRDEC Secretariat at 335-0630. (Niño Manaog)
