City government embarks on tax advocacy campaign
The city government, through its assessor's office has embarked on tax advocacy campaign among senior high students of public high schools here to raise their awareness on why proper taxes should be paid.
Mathilde Octavio, city executive assistant for education said it would be more effective if children at an early stage can already understand the significance of paying their taxes.
"Taxes are the lifeblood of the government. One percent of the tax that they pay will go to the special education fund," she added.
Octavio said they have just completed the advocacy in seven city schools and they looked forward to do the same in six remaining schools next year.
Another plan she said is to hold similar campaigns in all private high schools where most of the students are children of well-off families.
She added that another proposal is to prepare a module that will form part of the school curriculum. (PNA)
