Two 'good performing' tribes won't join Dinagyang 2009
Two tribes that regularly join the Dinagyang competition have not registered for next year's celebration.
Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) Publicity and Media Relations chair Nena Magalona identified the two tribes as Tribu San Pedro and Tribu Familia Sagrada.
As of yesterday only 18 tribes have registered with the IDFI.
The period for registration ended last November 30.
Magalona said they have no idea on the plans of the two tribes since no word was heard from the organizers. Tribu San Pedro and Tribu Familia Sagrada are qualified to receive subsidy from the foundation since they belong to the top 15.
Tribu San Pedro is entitled to receive a 100 percent subsidy or P220,000 and Familia Sagrada is entitled to receive 75 percent subsidy equivalent to P165,000 from the foundation, said Magalona.
In the 2008 Dinagyang competition, Tribu San Pedro garnered the minor award for Best Discipline. Tribu San Pedro is composed of students from Fort San Pedro National High School. The tribe got its name from the school and St. Peter.
Familia Sagrada won the Best in Headdress in 2003; 3rd runner up in 2004 Dinagyang competition and 6th place in 2005. It was founded in 2003 by Robmar Tan Buensuceso.
The competition in 2009 will revolve on the 18 competing tribes, namely, Tribu Paghidaet, Tribu Ilonganon, Ang Taga Jaro, Tribu Silak, Tribu Atub-Atub, Tribu Panagat (formerly Parianon), Tribu Pag-Asa, Tribu Panaad, Tribu Molave, Tribu Aninipay, Tribu Binhi, Tribu Milagrosa, Tribu Bantu, Tribu Hamili, Tribu Angola, Tribu Himala, Tribu Himal-us and Tribu Bola-Bola.
