What is in store for the Philippines in 2009?
Economists predict an acute recession for the U.S. and many developing countries in Europe and Asia in 2009. In the U.S. veteran economists say that the economic recession may be nine months or more in 2009. Since thousands of workers in the automobile industries and other big U.S. manufacturing and food factories will be laid off due to poor business, according to television and newspaper reports, the general population will be affected.
Following the failure of the U.S. Congress to bail out the three giant car manufacturers, Pres. Bush may offer billions of dollars to the beleaguered industry. But the help that the outgoing U.S. President may offer to the ailing car industry may not still solve the crisis that is experienced by dozens of ailing businesses.
President-elect Obama is confident that he will give over two million jobs to the unemployed, thus easing the hardship many displaced American workers had suffered. Pres. Obama has lined up economic, business and financial experts to give solutions to the recession in the U.S. in 2009. Let's wait and see how Obama and his brilliant economic advisers will lift up the U.S. Economy.
In the Philippines, the recession has slightly affected the country in 2008. But with Japan, China, Hongkong, Singapore, Korea and Australia experiencing downtrend sales for the past months, it will most likely contaminate the economy of the Philippines. Graft and corruption is still the No. 1 sickness of the Philippines, the so-called only Christian nation in Asia.
Unless and until the curse is removed from the present administration, the 80 million Filipinos will be affected economically, socially and financially. Although born again and charismatic Christians are praying for the intervention of God Almighty for the unavoidable crisis that may affect the country due to the global happening, and the attitude of many of our elected officials on holding on to their sins of omission and commission, the country may experience difficulties in 2009. Majority of the Filipinos are Roman Catholics and that include the appointed and elected government officials and if they only obey and listen to the Word of God in II Chromicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Then the nation might be spared for whatever happens economically and otherwise in Year 2009.
Born again and charismatic Christians know that God is still in control of the world economy. Prayer to God and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour for all corrupt and dishonest private and government personnel and officials, will no doubt bring our country to prosperity and not recession and depression. Continue seeking God in our daily prayer and God will no doubt answer the prayer of righteous people. God bless the Philippines in Year 2009!
