DSWD launches Food-For-School program in Madalag
KALIBO, Aklan -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently launched its Food-For-School Program in the municipality of Madalag.
DSWD Regional Director Teresita S. Rosales came all the way from Iloilo for the launching, along with some of her staff from the region. Her group was assisted by DSWD's field office staff in Aklan headed by Project Development Officer Janet Calizo.
Director Rosales said beneficiaries for this period's program are the pre-school kids from the towns of Libacao and Madalag.
Rosales said these Day Care kids will receive everyday a kilo of rice for 120 days.
The Food For School program, Rosales added, is intended to solve hunger and at the same time malnutrition in the selected areas.
The towns of Libacao and Madalag are the latest recipients of the program. During the past years, school kids from Buruanga, Lezo, Nabas and Tangalan also benefited from the program, which was found to boost school attendance of children and improve their nutritional status.
The DSWD also turned over Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) checks to typhoon victims in Madalag who lost their homes during typhoon Frank's devastation in June last year.
Two hundred ninety (290) beneficiaries from 25 barangays of Madalag availed of the government assistance. Beneficiaries received P10,000.00 each, which they will use in building their homes.
The assistance released was under Category A. The DSWD also distributed checks for victims in the towns of Banga and New Washington.
Other Aklan towns are still awaiting release of their ESA. (PIA)
