Ford Fellowships application extended
The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (FF-IFP), through the University of San Agustin Coordinating Center for Research and Publications (UCRP), is extending the deadline for submission of full application forms for the 2009 Cohort of the FF-IFP until February 15, 2009. The UCRP has been the regional partner of the Philippine Social Science Council and the Ford Foundation in the implementation of IFP in Western Visayas. Professor Jigger Latoza, UCRP Director, is the regional partner representative.
The Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program (FF-IFP) provides graduate education opportunities to individuals who have excellent academic qualifications, leadership potential and track record in national/community service, but lack systematic access to graduate education. IFP guarantees support for masteral study anywhere in the world in an academic discipline that falls within Ford Foundation's program areas. Worldwide, IFP is being implemented in 22 countries and territories in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Russia.
To be eligible for the grant, applicants should meet the following pre-qualification criteria: Filipino citizen and currently residing in the Philippines; has earned a baccalaureate degree with above average grades (B+ or better, or its equivalent);
with at least three years of relevant work experience that relates to the kind of work or community service that one plans to do after completion of studies;
is not residing and/or working in Metro Manila; has never attended school outside of the Philippines; is not working nor affiliated with an institution/organization that offers opportunities for an advanced degree; and does not have pending administrative or criminal case.
The proposed field of study must be related to one of the 12 Ford Foundation grant-making areas, namely: Arts and Culture; Civil Society; Community and Resource Management; Community Development; Economic Development and Economics Security; Education and Scholarship; Governance; Human Rights; Religion, Society and Culture; Media, Sexuality and Reproductive Health; and Workforce Development.
Once selected, Ford Foundation International Fellows may enroll in an appropriate university program anywhere in the world, including their country of residence. IFP will cover the cost of up to three years of graduate study, including tuition and other university fees, living allowances, travel allowances, and health insurance coverage.
