Project Shine extended in Isabela
BACOLOD CITY -- About 60 provincial government scholars from the Fifth District of the province participated in the Brigada Eskwela held at San Agustin and Cabcab Elementary Schools in the Municipality of Isabela, over the weekend.
It is part of the community relations and integration program of the Project SHINE (Sharing Hope, Inspiring Excellence) of Gov. Isidro P. Zayco and Vice Gov. Emilio L. Yulo III.
According to Executive Asst. to the Vice Governor, Edward G. Meneses, the activity is part of the scholars’ obligation to do social services to the schools that include clean up drive, painting of the school buildings and other works delegated by the school.
The scholars are students from Binalbagan Catholic College and Carlos Hilado Memorial State College who are from Himamaylan City and the Municipalities of Hinigaran, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Isabela and Binalbagan.
Meanwhile, lectures on “Ways to Help a Child Excel in School” and “Challenges to Eliminate Child Labor and Poverty” under the MAESTRA (Mother and Father Assistance to Educational System Through Tutorial and Remedial Activities) Program was also conducted to the parents of the school children by trained resource persons in cooperation with the Dept. of Education – Negros Occidental.
Isabela Sangguniang Bayan Member Francis L. Yulo said that it is part of the local government’s program to assist in the education of the parents through remedial classes on weekends for them to understand and support the education of their children that would eventually lead to a brighter future of the children and not just let them work in the sugarcane fields.
The lectures under the MAESTRA Program, initiated in the Fifth District has been done every Saturday for the whole year. (Capitol News)
