City’s sailboat owners rule in Paraw Regatta slalom race
Entries from Iloilo City ruled in the two categories of the Iloilo Paraw Slalom race held Saturday. The Paraw Regatta Slalom is an added attraction to the yearly Paraw Regatta Festival.
The paraws owned by Oscar Espinosa of Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo reigned in category A and B of the slalom race held in the beach fronting Tatoy's Manokan in Arevalo district. Espinosa’s sailboat named as John-John got the 1st place in the category A while his sailboat Kristine likewise landed 1st in the category B. His entry, Tatoy's Angel also registered 3rd place in the category A.
In the category A of the slalom race, sailboat Joseph 2 owned by Rogelio Garreza of Iloilo National High School in Lapaz got the 2nd place. Garreza’s other sailboat named Joseph 1 got the 4th place in the same category. He was also the 2nd prize winner in the category B after his sailboat Toto RJ came next to Espinosa’s sailboat Kristine.
While, sailboat Piranha 3 bagged the 5th place. Its owner is Benito Gordoncillo of Leganes, Iloilo.
The first prize winner received cash prize of P8,000 and trophy; 2nd place P6,000 and trophy and 3rd prize P5,000 and trophy. The 4th and 5th prize winners received P4,000 and P2,000 cash, respectively.
In the category B of the slalom race, sailboat Cherelyn owned by Corazon Tantiado of Parara Sur, Tigbauan landed 3rd place. Jayde Pauchano’s sailboat 2 Angels got 4th place and Jimmy Toroy’s Beach Comber entry was 5th place. Toroy is from Parara Sur, Tigbauan.
The 1st prize winner in the category B, received P10,000 and trophy; 2nd prize P8,000 and trophy and 3rd prize P6,000 and trophy. The 4th and 5th placers received P4,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Consolation prizes of P1,000 each were also handed to all non-winners in both category A and B.
The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc. chaired by Manuel Villa Jr. has included the Slalom race in the yearly paraw sailboat contest to enhance the seamanship of the crew in maneuvering the Paraw under all wind and wave conditions in a preset race course.
