'Iron age' mini-paraw bags 1st prize
A miniature paraw artistically made of scrap metal and wires was chosen as this year’s first prize winner in the SM miniature paraw making contest. The work of art was favored by the judges from among the many entries.
The miniature paraw was the masterpiece of Arthur Jusa, Jr of Barangay Pagsanga-an, Pavia. The materials used in coming up with what appears as paraw in the Iron Age includes metal flat iron.
Jusa received P10,000 worth of gift certificates from SM City’s Press Relation Officer Troy Camarista. The awarding ceremony was held last Saturday at the SM City activity center.
The judges were Arnold Almacen, Joselito Perez and Francis Puig of the Photo Artists League of Iloilo (PALI).
The second prize went to Arnold Pillado of San Nicolas, Oton. His entry is made of used cloth, used bottle caps, aluminum cans, used wires, used abaca rope, used slice rubber and tissue paper. Pillado received P8,000 worth of SM gift certificates as prize.
While, Michil Odin Endencio’s entry landed on the 3rd place. Endencio, of Hoskyn, Guimaras used bamboo, abaca, string and cloth in her miniature paraw. He received P5,000 worth of SM gift certificate for his winning entry.
The SM miniature paraw making contest is a joint project of Iloilo City Hall Press Corps, Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc. and Department of Tourism 6. The miniature paraw making contest is one of the activities included in the 37th Iloilo Paraw Regatta.
The entries were judged according to originality and creativity, innovativeness and craftsmanship, visual impact and relevance to the standard design of paraw and proportioning of the work.
The participants were obliged in using indigenous and recyclable materials like styrofore, tin cans, bottles and wires in conceptualizing their miniature paraw.
