Speeding 10-wheeler kills four, injures three others
Police in San Joaquin town are coordinating with their counterparts in Ajuy town to arrest the driver of a cargo truck involved in an accident that killed four and injured three others.
Police Officer 3 Rolando Sensida, traffic investigator of San Joaquin PNP, said that driver Remuel P. Carale may have fled to Ajuy after his 10-wheeler truck plowed through several persons on the shoulder of the highway in Brgy. Sta. Rita at 6:15 pm Friday.
Thirty-three-year-old Leizel Sefil, her 10-year-old son Christian Mark, and her four-year-old niece Joelo; and four-year-old Francis John Fermaran, a relative vacationing with them, died due to multiple head injuries, with fatal injuries in the head, Sensida said.
At the time of the accident, they were buying barbecue on a stall located at the shoulder of the highway, Sensida added.
Nelson Alberca, Alvin Arabia and Renan Naranjo, who were also standing on the shoulder at the time of the accident, were injured.
According to the police investigation, Carale was on the way to Iloilo from Antique when he attempted to overtake a public utility van. He swerved back to his lane because of an incoming Vallacar transit passenger bus traveling the opposite direction.
Maybe the driver became nervous upon seeing the approaching bus that he swerved back to his lane but his truck veered off the highway and into the shoulder, Sensida said.
Carale’s truck also hit two motorcycles, a closed van, and a multicab, which were all parked on the shoulder of the highway. A variety store was also damaged in the accident.
