Raul Sr. endorses Treñas to run for representative of '2nd district'
It appears Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. is very sure that Iloilo City will be divided into two congressional districts next year as he recently endorsed Mayor Jerry Treñas to run as representative for the 2nd district of the city.
The secretary made the endorsement in the birthday celebration of Boarding House Commission chair Edward Yee last Saturday.
The endorsement was made on condition that the creation of another congressional district in the city will push through before the election.
Treñas confirmed the reported endorsement of Secretary Gonzalez of his candidacy for congressman of the soon-to-be-created second district next year.
With the endorsement, the secretary's son incumbent Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr. will run for the 1st district of Iloilo City. The younger Gonzalez has another term to spend.
The mayor was assured by Senator Juan Ponce Enrile that the Senate will approve the creation of another congressional district for Iloilo City. Aside from Iloilo City, there are other 15 cities in the country waiting for the creation of another congressional district.
In an interview, Treñas said though it is too early to make public the endorsement but it has already taken place. The chief executive will have to transfer his election registration from Mandurriao to Molo.
The proposed second district will cover the districts of Molo, Arevalo and City Proper while the first district will cover Jaro, Mandurriao and Lapaz districts.
