Bacolod consistent finalist in Most Child Friendly City
Bacolod City was again cited as one of the finalists in the Presidential Awards for the 2008 Most Child Friendly City, under the highly urbanized city category.
Bacolod joined the ranks of Baguio, Cebu, Olongapo, and Makati which bagged the award for the national level.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia personally received the recognition from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the awarding ceremonies held at Malacañang Palace recently.
Leonardia was accompanied by Councilor Greg Gasataya, Department of Social Services and Development head Sally Abelarde, Ma. Elena Gumabong of the City Health Office, and Rosene Depa of SCORE.
Bacolod City has been a consistent Most Child Friendly City awardee in the regional level and a finalist in the national level under the Leonardia administration.
Leonardia attributed the city's successful implementation of programs for the welfare of children to the help and cooperation of the various sectors in the community and the active involvement of all local government officials.
Bacolod was also a recipient of the Apolinario Mabini award for Most Disabled Friendly City, the Best Peace and Order Council award, and the Most Business Friendly City award, among others.
