Suspected cable thief shot dead
ROXAS CITY – A man who was caught in the act of cutting a cable of Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company was shot dead by a security guard in Malipayon Village, Brgy. Tiza, this city Friday evening last week.
The victim was identified as Billy Billones of Lawa-an this city. Billones sustained fatal wounds at his back inflected by 12 gauge shot gun. He was rushed to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
SPO1 Orly Baril, Roxas City Police Station investigator, revealed that security guards Roberto Antolo and Bobby Gonzales responded to a report of residents that they saw suspicious-looking persons at the boundary of Tiza and Milibili on April 1 at around 9.30 p.m.
He said that upon reaching the scene of incident, two guards alleged that when they were about to arrest the suspects, they were shot then they fired back resulting that one of the four suspects was hit.
The police officer also said that five other guards of the Tri-Gold Detective and Security Agency, namely, Jose Albaran, Jr.,Oliver Bauson, Leoncio Octavio, Roberto Fuyon and Ronald Peñalosa also responded but they failed to capture the three other suspects.
Police said Billones has a pending theft case filed by Globe Telecom on April 1, 2008 but posted bail for his temporary liberty.
Gonzales and Antolo surrendered their service 12-guage shotguns after the incident.
Recovered from the scene of incident were 150-meter long cable, a .38 caliber with no serial number, iron saw, cable knife and empty shells of a .38 caliber.
