DOH Negros to launch Garantisadong Pambata 2009
BACOLOD CITY -- The Provincial Health Office in support of the program of the Department of Health is launching the Garantisadong Pambata 2009 on April 13-17, 2009.
The Garantisadong Pambata is a program designed to promote the 9 Child Survival Interventions to local government units for their continued and sustained delivery package of health services to children under 6 years old.
As listed, the 9 Child Survival Interventions are: skilled attendance during pregnancy, delivery and immediate postpartum; care of the newborn; breastfeeding and complementary feeding; micronutrient supplementation and de-worming; immunization of children and mothers; integrated management of sick children; child injury prevention and control; birth spacing and environment sanitation.
PHO GP9 Coordinator Alice Matti said they are urging pregnant women to go for a check up with registered midwives, nurses and doctors and not with the “hilot” as what has been customary especially with pregnant women in the far-flung villages.
On April 13-17, health workers and trained volunteers will be in the different health centers, barangay halls, day care centers, schools and other designated GP posts all over the province to conduct Vitamin A immunization, de-worming and counseling for mothers.
For the Vitamin A immunization, it targets children from 6 months to 71 months (or 5 years and 9 months). Deworming will be administered to children 12 months (or 1 year) up to 71 months (or 5 years and 9 months).
GP9 aims to reduce the under six morality rate by two-thirds and by 2015 institutionalize the 9 survival intervention in all local government units.
Mothers with 6-month old children up to 71-month old (or 5 years and 9 months) are urged to go to their respective health centers on April 13-17 or inquire from their barangay health workers to avail of free vaccines and de-worming. (PIA/EAD)
