Motorcycle group tapped as 'crime stopper'
BACOLOD CITY -- Acting Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) chief Supt. Leo Erwin Agpangan yesterday announced the establishment of the Bacolod Anti-Crime Task Force composed of all motorcycle clubs in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City under the auspices of the Unified Negros Island Motorcycle Federation.
Agpangan said that he is supporting the initiative of the motorcycle club members to undertake a different kind of "volunteerism" to combat crimes against persons and properties like highway robbery and snatching. The group went yesterday to the office of the City Mayor for a courtesy call accompanied by Supt. Agpangan.
Agpangan confirmed that the next step that he will do is to conduct a seminar for the 750 strong members in order for them to be equipped with knowledge in terms of crime solution. He is optimistic that if this group will be fully operational, it will be of great help because most of them had expertise in "motorcycle riding" compared to the ordinary riders.
Agpangan further stressed that he wanted that before joining the operations, task force members will first undergo a rigid screening and training.
"I wanted to coordinate with the Land Transportation Office for the deputization of this group as volunteers of the Traffic Management Group," Agpangan added.
On the other hand, Mayor Evelio Leonardia appealed to the members of the United Negros Island Motorcycle Federation to display their professionalism and make their group credible in combatting crimes in the city of Bacolod. "Please make sure that you will carry this group with a sense of responsibility and honesty," Leonardia added.
