Treñas orders probe on involvement of minors in thieveries
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has ordered an investigation on the possible connection of a syndicate behind the series of thiveries involving minors.
Treñas’s pronouncement was in response to the recent apprehension of the Mandurriao police of minors who ransacked a commercial establishment at Smallville complex.
In a report submitted by Chief Inspector Orly Gabinete to the chief executive, it detailed the arrest of two minors allegedly involved in the series of ransacking incidents at Smallville entertainment strip.
The two minors were arrested by the members of the Mandurriao police station last Holy Thursday and Good Friday. One of the two suspects were caught while carting away two cases of Coke Light in one of the restaurants in Smallville.
It was learned that one of the suspects has various records in the different police stations since 2006 but no case was filed against the suspect considering he is a minor. Treñas did not give full details of the suspects’ identities to protect them as they are still minors and are protected under the law.
The two suspects were immediately turned over to the Children’s and Women’s Desk. It is not clear on whether the police have filed cases against the suspects or has recommended for their formation.
