6 minors behind series of thefts, robberies still free
Six minors who are involved in the series of thefts and robbery incidents in the city are still on the loose. Two of them were recently apprehended by police while taking away two cases of softdrinks in can at a restaurant in Diversion Road, Mandurriao.
Chief Inspector Orly Gabinete, chief of police of Mandurriao police station, said based on their investigation the six minors do not have handlers but are only acting on their own.
Gabinete said information they have gathered from one of the suspects is very important as it gave them leads to the other suspects engaged in thieveries in the city.
Initially, they found it hard to extract information from the persons who know these teenagers as the latters also shared their loot to other people.
One of the cases took place in one of the city’s markets where the fish vendors complained about their missing boxes of fish which they are supposed to sell. It was later found out that a group of teenagers stole the boxes of fish stored inside the market.
The two minors who were recently apprehended in Smallville complex have two other companions but they were able to elude arrest. The area where they fled is dim and police find a hard time looking after their remaining companions, said Gabinete.
The two minors aging 12 and 17 years old were turned over by the police to the Children's and Women's Desk for action. It depends on the establishment owners on whatever action they may take against the suspects, said Gabinete.
The chief of police has recommended to Mayor Jerry Treñas and concerned agencies like the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to take action on the plight of the minors who at the early age have already manifested notoriety.
In most cases, child offenders are remitted to the Balay Dalayunan and other centers in the city for corrective and formative action rather than put them in jail. However, there are minors who after the prescribed period of stay at the center still commit the same offense.
