Task force defers demolition at Duran Street
The Task Force Asis has deferred the demolition of 13 illegal structures along Duran Street, City Proper after the affected parties were given one week to voluntarily tear down their stalls and stores.
The affected illegal structure owners sought the intervention of City Administrator Melchor Tan in giving them ample time to demolish their respective structures. The demolition order issued to Task Force Asis headed by Engr. Bobby Dumanil was approved by Tan, Mayor Jerry Treñas and City Engineer Office (CEO) head Engr. Leane Opinion.
The demolition of illegal structures along Duran Street was sought by an official of the Department of Education (DepEd) after the residents went beyond the boundaries. The occupants were then allowed to construct stalls near the vicinity.
However, as time pass by, illegal structures mushroomed in the area constricting the flow of traffic. The little shanties along the road were then considered as eyesore.
The task force was supposed to implement the order last April 13, 2009. The city engineers’ office has already informed the affected parties led by Evelyn Dicen prior to the stalled demolition. As early as March 10, 2009, the affected owners were already notified of their violations.
The affected owners questioned the demolition order since they were occupying the area for decades. However, they are left with no recourse as the demolition order was affirmed by the chief executive.
