'New La Carlota Gymnasium, our Legacy'
LA CARLOTA CITY – Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, 4th District, Negros Occidental is proud to say that the new La Carlota City gymnasium is the legacy of his administration. This P35-million edifice was blessed yesterday in time for the opening of the 30th Pasalamat festival slated April 27 – May 3, 2009.
Governor Isidro Zayco, 4th District Board members Mae Javellana and Joven Alonzo, La Carlota City Mayor Demie John Honrado, Vice Mayor Baga and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Atty. Juliet Marie Ferrer, wife of Cong. Ferrer, Mrs. Lydia Ferrer, mother of Cong. Ferrer, government workers, teachers, residents and other guests were present during the blessing.
Cong. Ferrer said that this building is 85% completed. It was blessed so that they could use it for the important activities of the 2009 Pasalamat festival. He said that last year, there were activities and events related to the Pasalamat festival which was postponed because of the rains and the lack of the appropriate venue to transfer in case it rains.
He said that this project was conceived during the time of the late Governor Joseph G. Marañon where the provincial government provided a counterpart fund of P18 million.
Governor Zayco was also instrumental in the passage of this appropriation when he was then the Vice Governor of the province.
He said this project is three years in the making. The provincial government has extended its share, Senator Chiz Escudero, Congressional Office, the Local Government of La Carlota, among others.
This will be a multi-purpose gym. It can be used for weddings, baptism, concerts, sports and any other events and activities, he said.
It has a capacity of 4,000 people.
He said he will name the receiving room after the late Governor Marañon his beloved Godfather.
This will be in his memory, he said.
“This blessing comes from God. We are just his instruments to bring this into reality. We will just pass and never be here forever and this is the legacy that we are proud of. This gymnasium was built without a debt. This was realized because of a team effort,” he said.
Mayor Honrado said that Rome was not built in a day and so with this gymnasium. But they worked really hard to realize its completion. This is a continuing project of Congressman Ferrer and the provincial government.
He said this is very timely that this is ready to be used for the Pasalamat festival. There are 22 candidates vying for the 2009 Miss Pasalamat Festival Queen and this venue will be used in case it rains.
He thanked everyone who made this project possible.
