SP commends incoming Negrense AFP chief
BACOLOD CITY -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental, in their regular session Wednesday at Panaad Park and Stadium, unanimously passed a resolution commending Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado on his appointment as the incoming Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff.
Vice Governor Emilio Yulo III said a copy of the resolution will be presented to Ibrado as soon as he visits Negros Occidental maybe early this year.
Fifty-five year-old Ibrado, a native of Sagay City, is the present commanding general of the Philippine Army and will replace current AFP chief Gen. Alexander Yano who will retire on June 13, 2009. Ibrado, on the other hand, is slated to retire March 10, 2010.
The provincial officials led by Governor Isidro Zayco said it is a big honor and pride for Negros Occidental that the incoming AFP chief is a Negrense.
Military records revealed that Ibrado served as commander of the 11th Infantry Battalion from 1992-1994 and later as 303 rd Infantry Brigade from 2002-2003 in Negros island.
Other key positions he has occupied after his assignment in Negros are: as chief of the Army Intelligence Group, commander of the Special Forces Regiment, Army chief of staff and commanding general of the Special Operations Command, which supervises Army' elite units such as Special Forces, Scout Rangers and counter-terrorist unit Light Reaction Battalion.
