City gov't meets pedicab drivers
BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod City Government’s Sectoral Concerns Office and the Bacolod Trisikad Operators and Drivers Association conducted a meeting with 64 trisikad associations last May 23 at the New Government Center in an aim to educate the pedicab drivers of the laws and ordinance related to their job.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed gratitude to all attendees saying that the City Government has always taken into consideration the plight of pedicab drivers.
Executive Assistant Vicente Petierre, Jr., who heads the Sectoral Concerns Office, discussed with the 110 attendees the provisions of the City Ordinance 270 or the Trisikad Operations, Laws and Ordinances, the activities in line with the Trisikad Festival on July 8 to 9, the City Government’s Philhealth program for pedicab drivers and their families; and the city’s solid waste management program.
BATODA president Ma. Deña Serso on the other hand, discussed the importance of registering with the Department of Labor and Employment for them to be able to avail of DOLE’s livelihood and technical assistance, the processes required for securing business permits and pedicab drivers’ licenses.
Also discussed during the meeting were the various livelihood programs offered by the City Government for pedicab drivers.
